The ABQ was - in my opinion - unsurpassed in Haydn, while I used to find their Beethoven a bit too smooth and driven. However, re-listening to this disc after years, the performance of Op.59/3 in particular strikes me as ideal. Great recorded sound, as well.

Cheers,

EJ

Experts believe that Mahler purposely created this 1st Symphony for people who wanted a 1st play record to 'warm up' the LP12, and for this it works very well.

But a great shame the cover picture clashes with the curtains.
