There's something about Schumann's music for piano... I feel that while Schubert's music is as much about the notes as the silences between the notes, Schumann's is altogether more complex, as if the emotions and ideas are like currents riding under a craggy, complex surface of notes. In this respect, he is closer to Bach than anyone before or since.

 

Schumann had no 'successor'; Brahms and the other late romantics wrote some great music but it was back to the notes from now on.

Haim - it is not one that will get played too often round here. I agree I am not a big fan of two pianos. Nowhere near as good as the new Rava....
