This sounds so good - another fine Steven Wilson job.

It really is becoming a good year for recordings. More delightful work from Paul Lewis.

Pleasantly relaxing after a day of helping set up a model railway exhibition and in the company of a pint of Marston's Empire.

..........

Good news Jamie - you are posting the picture of the big box set version - did you buy that?

Yes. apparently I was lucky as a few copies became available last week.

Speaking of great music, just off to open a bottle of Meantime Pale Ale and watch the last episode of the second series of David Simon's series 'Treme' with my partner.

Adrian,

It was a spectacular show, last weekend. I took the opportunity to meet Paul, have this disc signed (bought it during the break), however, the moment I showed the mrs she grabbed it, packaged it and now I have to wait until Santa gives it back...

EJ, glad to hear the show was good. He plays in London next week but I am seeing YES that night so cannot make it. So I hope to get to see him next March instead. Bet you won't be showing any more new CD's to your wife! I hope the wait is not too painful.

Cheers

Oh dear am I the one to piss on this lovefest? I thought it pretty ordinary, some deep bass, a couple of OK moments. All I could think of was the guy who used to perform with a harmonium or pump organ, Adge Cutler or some such.

Trevor Pinnock: Bach Sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord

Posted on: 12 November 2011 by EJS

For such a popular opera, there aren't many commercial recordings of Nabucco. Of the big three (Gobbi/Gardelli, Cappuccilli/Sinopoli and this one), this one is IMO the finest overall. I've had it on LP for years and recently acquired the CD version. The cast is great on the whole, although Elena Obraztsova's many qualities do not include sounding like a sweet girl (unless that's your thing of course) and Manuguerra does not have the personality of his peers. Muti directs with relentless fire, but also sensitively.

Full text is included on a third disc.

Cheers,
