Brilliant album.

Hope you like it?

Stu - it is very good. I did try it briefly at the time but guess I was not in the mood then. Loving it now  - will pick up a copy next time I am at the CD store.

That's one of the things I like about the end of year lists/reviews - time to reassess what came out in the year and find a few more new gems.

Not one for BigH to try though .......

I played this in the car earlier and my 11 year old asked me to put it on his computer for him to listen to - seems he is developing an interesting musical taste!

I was wondering about other music like Felt myself. It's my Supersilent 10 for this year, as it's from an area of music I know nothing about - and you have it! Playing it now, I just love the intimate atmosphere, and all the creaks and rustles - even the sound of his neighbours on the landing outside his apartment on 'Unter'.

I'd seen Nils Frahm on Boomkat (and the Guardian website) before, and like you, took a chance on Felt and Wintermusik ('Ambre' is so good.) As I expect you know, Boomkat pages have useful links to other albums on the same label / people who bought this also bought  / and similar recommendations. All their reviews are hyper-enthusiastic though as they're trying to get you to buy things, of course. I don't know, maybe the likes of EJS, Haim and Florestan can help us out with similar artists / albums?

Re end of year lists, Boomkat also publish loads of interesting lists (from artists, staff, and so on), though like me, not done theirs yet. I've had a go, losing about half the 46 'albums' (inc EPs) in my iTunes for 2011.

Great to hear Lontano jr is trying a few things out. My niece has started buying music for herself recently - to my bro's relief, very normal stuff like Example, Ellie Goulding, and Florence. (What's with all the Naim oldies and Flo?!)

Just read one of their wackier reviews myself: Actress - Rainy Dub. Probably one of BigH's. : )

Meanwhile...  my postie brought my first couple of Blue Notes for a while today:

I'm sure loads here have this already, but other than Go!, I don't think I know much Dexter Gordon. I snapped it up a) as I recognised Pierre Michelot and Kenny Clarke from Miles' Ascenseur... (thanks MilesSmiles again), and b) the cover is cool as.

Superbe.

Ok Chief, I guess when I am sitting in front of my music library and the Naim forum it is easy to change musical direction with a few clicks of the mouse. So I have just played the first track of Our Man in Paris. But now I am onto what must be Blue Note's Finest Hour?

Grant Green on Idle Moments

I will be checking out Nils Frahm based on the last few pages of this thread.

On iPad so no pictures, sorry, listening to Oneohtrix Point Never "Replica" now. Chief and others, might be one to give a quick spin - Boomkat are bound to have samples and a review. Fact loved it I know.  Talking of which, House of Balloons was their number 1 of the year which I can't disagree with.  I do love Thursday as well though, and if Echoes of Silence sounds like Initiation all the ay through it will be very cool...

Really enjoyed that.  Perfect solitary listening on the Beyer Dynamics while the Missus watches X Factor.  Reminds me of Four Tets quieter moments, speaking of which I am now going to listen to his FabricLive mix.
