Continuing a "throwdown" this weekend with the centre of attention being the 28th Sonata in A flat major.
Earlier in the last two days, I had the last two Brendel recordings, then Paul Lewis, Wilhelm Kempff (stereo), Wilhelm Backhaus (stereo), Anton Kuerti and now the Andras Schiff. The plan is tonight to continue on with Kovacevich, Goode, and Lortie and then watch the Barenboim on DVD. Tomorrow, I'll do Gilels, Arrau, Perahia, and Uchida. I'll continue in this fashion until I run out. Then on to the next Sonata...
All in an effort to really work more in depth on the Sonatas (& Variations / Bagetelles etc.) this year. So far, this is the only New Years resolution I haven't broken so far

Karl,
I've been seeing this one a lot lately and I'm dying to order this once I can take my credit card off the ice from the pre-Christmas splurging.

This is one of the criteria look for. Too bad it isn't complete?

Has to be a contender for my favourite album bought as a result of this thread. A big thank you again to the cat who recently posted this gem:

Delightful music. The piano has a clear, bell-like tone and is wonderfully recorded. A handsomely packaged 3 disc set available from Harmonia Mundi (via Amazon) for just a fiver. What's not to like?

When you get it try the last Bagatelle from the op.33 set - I just spent a restless night with the thunderous piano tone bouncing around in my head! (And I'm not complaining)
But seriously this set is rapidly climbing my top 100 list and I would recommend it to both the novice and more experienced music lovers.
