Watching the little one while the older one is off to see the Lion King. Now this sounds surprisingly good on the big rig and my little one is showing me all the dance moves.

I have just ordered the set.  It's beyond belief that the two LP's/CD have not been available for so long.  I have both LP's, bought from Mole Jazz in the mid '80's, and they have been a played regularly since.  There is something very satisfying about the performances which the recording quality only enhances. Certainly for me one of my top Jazz albums- I look forwards to the arrival of the box set.

That was an enjoyable 90 minutes. Silly story derived from a play of Sardou (of Tosca fame), but Puccini handled his material more deftly than Giordano did on this occasion. Still, some good tunes including a show stopper aria for Domingo. Gheorghiu in her not-very-interesting role is a treat, I've always liked her best in Puccini and she is gorgeous here, as well. And Domingo remains impressive. The role doesn't present any huge challenges, and despite a now pronounced wide vibrato and some pinched high notes, his voice retains this glorious sheen. Veronesi conducts well.

Another first listen. A prestige project for EMI/Virgin: the cast is a who's who of current baroque star singers, plus Rolando Villazon as Hercules. The draw for me was Europa Galante, however, who as usual are at their considerable best in this music.
