Naim Owners Club - 1000 Best Al***s.

Greetings Music Lovers

So it seems that the Guardian has got wrong again (as the media usually does) with their attempt at a alternative definitive list of albums to listen to before you die. So its falls to us "real" music lovers to put the record straight (pun intended).

So i think say about 25 entries each, only one from each of your favorite artists is allowed, that means 40 individual posters can participate. So try not to repeat albums but its OK to repeat artists but I'd say it would be better if we could include nearly 1000 different artists and as many different genres as we can. Can we achieve this?

When we finish we can E-mail it to the Guardian and show them the proper way to do it.

I'll start mine in the next post...

Two excellent compilation box sets you have chosen there, Nigel.

I would also recommend Nuggets II, Acid Drops Spacedust and Flying Saucers: Psychedelic Confectionary from the UK Underground 1965-1969 and my very favourite compilation box-set Rubble Volumes 1-10 & Rubble Volumes 11-20, which have just been re-issued.

It's all getting out of control now! There's been plenty mentioned that I would include too, but I didn't yet spot...

Rory Gallagher - Irish Tour '74
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tarkus
The Doors - The Doors
Ian Dury and the Blockheads - New Boots and Panties
Kate Bush - Aeriel

And did anyone have this yet?

John Coltrane - A Love Supreme

James - it's difficult to call the best ELP album the first 5: ELP, Tarkus, Pictures, Trilogy and Brain Salad are all so good and Works is pretty good too - especially the wonderful Pirates. I went for Pictures in my list, but could easily have gone for one of the others.

Boys

What I was thinking was that you should put the best example of a bands work or the album that brought their music to wider acclaim or that was groundbreaking, first of its kind or their most adventurous so if we have the list as a sticky people can look up bands and try the corresponding album to see if they want to investigate further. See simple Confused

One of my all time favourites. It works very well as EC selected some excellent Country songs and showed how good his vocals really were.

Jono glad to see someone has real taste Smile. I used to go to his club Sabresonic every week and then every month when it moved. I heard him do 5 hour sets of shear inventiveness. He is the King of British Techno though Two Lone Swordsmen have branched out with the last 3 albums they are still fantastic.

Dean,

I haven't seen Andy much since the early eighties in Windsor when we had both just left school. I was re-introduced to his exploits by a work mate who was reading "MixMag" and I saw his picture.

Well done on subverting "The Gaudien" 1000 list of trendy wank records. Some are good, DAF being one good obscure example, the rest appear to be for effect.

I forgot that when writing my own over long list - I'm not sure whether I think Days of The Future Passed or EGBDF is the Moody Blues finest hour - I'd hate to be without either, I guess it's just a question of balance that keeps me on the threshold of a dream - what a great band they were/are - and I forgot to include them so I think I'd better go now!.

I think it might take more lists from people who have already contributed already to reach the 1000. I did not realise how hard this was going to be.

Oh thanks worm I imagine that took a while and it shows we haven't even hit 500, might be a reason for all the pop stuff in the Guardian list.

I missed that one two - Pearl is a superb album and Janis's finest hour - even better than Cheap Thrills IMHO.
