AV 2 set up advice?

Hi Naim theater fans,

I have added an AV2 and a Nap 175 to my existing Naim stereo. (252/300 system) In my room, I am only using one pair of "extra" speakers, which are in the rear of my room directly behind and above my listening position on the main sofa, so I am using a 4.0 system.

I am not clear about the use of the term rear in the AV2 owner's manual though, it appears Naim intended the Surround speakers to be the primary option in a normal 5.1 system and the "rears" were options. Due to my own wiring, and system set up, I am now using the speakers as rears, but wired from the "surround" output from the AV2 to the rear amp, and it is also defined that way on the set up menus.

Would the system perform any better if I re set them up as rears and changed the programming or wiring at all?

Thanks,

Bruce

The AV2 has 5 sets of speakers.
- front
- center
- subwoofer
- surround
- extra rears

The first three are self-explanatory.
Surrounds are what you call rear.
They are the 4&5 of the 5.1 setup.

The "rears" in the AV2 are referred to as "extra rears" meaning they are the 6&7 in a 7.1 setup (DTS ES, DD EX etc.).

Simply switch the pre-poweramp cable from rears to surround, set rears to no and set surround to yes.
That's all. Maybe the AV2 is smart enough to re-route all the surround signals to the rears if no surround are present.

But the "correct" setup would be surround, not rear.
