xps 2 burndy on cds2/xps

Posted by: davidf on 09 July 2003

who here has tried the new xps2 burndy with the above and replaced the original black burndy that comes with the cds2? Can anyone specify and quantify the benefits. Finally, is there a market for the black cds 2 burndy? What is the going rate for a s/h black burndy? Please, someone that has done this with an xps, not an xps2. thanks, david.

Hi Richard,

while we obviously cannot rule out discovering a way to improve the 52/Supercap Burndy in the future, the revisions which brought about improvements with the S-XPS Burndy so not apply with the 52/S-Cap Burndy. The current Black Burndy for the 52/S-Cap is the best we can do at the moment.

As long as the band on the Burndy say S-XPS then it's an S-XPS Burndy.... The changes are on the inside so the outside should look just like the older XPS Burndy.

I've just received my S-CDPS cable for use with my CDS1 (through 82/Hi/Napsc, 250 into SBL1s). It was replacing the original grey burndy.

First day (last Saturday): hmm... a little better but nothing earthshattering. The sound was a little different with bass a bit more evident and the overall sound had slightly more air.

Last night (Monday): Ah ha, now I get it! As above really, only much more so. Bass, air, but above all the system has even more punch than before. Oh, and this could be my imagination, but (dare I say it?) the imaging seems to have improved!

What's particularly interesting is that this upgrade is consistent with most of the Naim upgrades I've done in the past, in that the improvement is pretty much holistic, and not just confined to one aspect or other.

Summary? Well done Naim!

Chris

PS Now I just need to get the 82 Supercapped!

Chris,

Thanks for that. I've only owned my CDS1 for 2 weeks (buying second hand after a full service)so am not too anxious about upgrading it yet but its good to know you feel the S-CDPS is worth it. I guess by Christmas I won't be able to resist.

Might you go for a 52 once the super cap is in place? I'm using 72/hi at the mo and am looking one day to go to supercap then 52.

Enjoy

Will this new burndy work for the original cdx and xps? Has anyone tried this and any improvements to the sound?

Thanks

Is anyone able to comment on the differences between running CDSII/XPS with the new S-XPS Burndy as opposed to CDSII/XPS2.

Also a question for Richard, Naim, how much is the new burndy for the supercap and is it currently available.

Cheers

Rael,

I assume you're looking to upgrade a grey NAC52 Burndy to a Black one...

send us an e-mail or contact your Naim dealer for pricing.

Richard
