Stand Upgrade
Posted by: shinpad on 05 March 2003
I'm looking to upgrade my stand from the Sound Org 5 tier stand I have now. My question is would I get more benefit from moving just the CDP and the PREAMP to the new stand, therefore creating a bigger distance between power and control components and having 2 stands, or is it better to put the whole lot on one new stand and bin the old one??
thanks
Graham
PS - can someone tell me of a good dealer in London that sells Hutter??

I know what you mean! My question is not here to get into that argument, it's relevant to any modular rack - not just hutter.

Whatever make you go for, if you get one of the modular ones you can try it with just two shelves for the source and pre-amp (some would also recommend a spacer shelf to increase the separation), then build on that if you like what you hear. Rather than pay for a complete 4/5 tier rack.
I think it is probably better to keep the power amp(s) and *Caps on a separate rack if you have room.

Hi Graham
If you get a new stand you can decide for yourself by experimentation on the separation issue. In my own system having a supercap directly above a 52 is a hideous experience and in this context, the price of an additional level of Fraim is an absolute bargain.

thanks for the input. I know Graham's in north London so I'll give them a bell.
Do the power amps/psu's benefit from being on better stands in the same way as the cdp and pre, or is it less relevant?????
thanks
Graham
