Sophie Zelmani

As part of my new found love for Euro music I recently stumbled across female singer/songwriter Sophie Zelmani and I wonder if anyone else likes this artist? I'm probably late to the party on this one but I find her vocal delivery spellbinding.

quote:
In 1994 Swedish vocalist Sophie Zelmani and producer/guitarist Lars Halapi began a collaboration that 16 years later must be labeled the most persistent, and certainly one of the most successful in Swedish pop history. Apart from consistent platinum sales in her native country Sweden, Zelmani had also reached out in countries such as Germany, Japan, Austria and Switzerland.

On Spotify for those who can.

I really like her. She has an absolutely superb voice and her music is generally great. Welcome to the club and enjoy Smile

Back in 1995 I think it was The Observer gave away a three or six track sampler of her first album. One track stuck out and caused me to investigate further only to realise that she was the wrong side of the twee line for me (and I like a lot of what others see as twee) and didn't have the singwriting chops albeit that she certainly had the looks. I occasionally go back to that sampler but Spotify confirmed that my original view was correct Smile

I've listened off an on to her (excellent) first album since 1994- in fact I was watching her on youtube just last week. She has the typical 'doll-like' innocent female Euro-vocal sound that I quite like. Her debut album is her best and recorded honestly with great sound. In fact this was one of the disks I used to play to show off the DBLs back in the day.

If you like her stuff, also try Keren Ann.
