HDX Ripping - Killing two birds

Newbie Alert...

Hello all

While I have been visiting this and the previous Naim forum for years this my first post.

I am very close to auditioning and hopefully buying the HDX (after the new firmware revision is finally released, I guess) though I have a question......

Is it then possible to convert HDX ripped cd files, hopefully stored on a suitable NAS,into an alternative format afterwards (perhaps a lossless format) as a batch process to import into itunes with a view to upload onto an 30mb ipod? my concern was one of hard disk space limitations of an ipod - and trying to avoid ripping each cd twice.

oh, I have around 1200 cds to put onto the HDX.

Have I missed the point? Is no such conversion possible or even necessary?

Thanks in advance for your views,

kind regards

I see no reason why not...pending the 1.5 version software. You will be able to use a program such as DBpoweramp to do the batch conversion to a variety of formats for your iPod.

if the files are secure on the nas you can do with them what you want

You will have to heavily compress your 1200CDs to fit onto a 30GB iPod, (nevermind a 30MB one Winker). Even then, I doubt you'd fit them all. There are many options as far as software is concerned to convert your files. iTunes does batch conversion and compression no problems, but if your files are in a format unreadable by iTunes, you'll have to convert twice.
