Election 2007?

I'll wager he won't. Brown is a cautious man by nature who has waited too long for his chance to risk the whims of the electorate.

The party in power does not need need one as it has years left on the mandated granted at the last election and they should stay and stand upon what they deliver over the next few years. Now the party not in power craves an election on the off chance that their position will improve - to echo the mantra of NuLab "Things can only get better". A vote now is a vote based on tabloid perceptions of personalities and style whereas a vote in a few years time is a vote based upon substance and measurable deliverables.

quote:measurable deliverables
A Brownian phrase if ever there was one!
I can see the argument that Labour should govern for the mandated term (spring 2009?), but I personally feel that Blair (remember him) was so Presidential I'd like to have an election now to allow the new administration to be judged on it's aspirations, and leadership.

Once again the trap of style over substance.
You can judge better in 2009 the leadership ability and count the aspirations that have been turned into something solid. To do otherwise is to be seen pandering to a presidential style beauty contest sponsored by the press and the chattering classes - the country deserves better.

Cogently argued Roy.

Times looking less certain economically, and I would very much like to see labour in for as long as possible so we can really judge how well placed Mr Brown has left the country to face this economic uncertainty. If we come through well he diserves the chance to win an election if he proves his mettle, even if there is zero chance I would vote vcor his party.
The last thing we want is a change of economic management at this very time...
Later maybe, but not this Autumn.

Since when has it been "best practise" to allow a PM to have a two-year "probation"?
NuLab won the last election on the stated intention that Tony B Liar would serve a full term. He hasn't. Time for a new election
Gordon Brown has demonstrated his incompetence, deceptiveness and ability to disappear in time of crisis over the last ten years. Time for a new election.
Gordon should call an election next Tuesday. He might win. The electorate are fickle.
Cheers

I don't think he'll go for an autumn election - too risky
