update-report

Posted by: jpk73 on 29 December 2001

Hi!

Between summer and now I did a very large update from Axis/Akito1/K9/CD3.5/FlatCap/92/FlatCap/IXO/2*90/Credos to [see my profile].

My LP12 is in progress right now, my dealer took it back because of a problem [see topic "Is my LP12 defectively?"]. I am really looking forward to get it back soon...

A few days ago the second pair of 135s arrived, that was the last upgrade-step... I plugged them into the S-Naxo (removed the PXO), and wow!

It sounds fantastic! I cannot say much about it, I don't have time because I am playing CDs all the time...

My wife and her sister had such happy faces, I couldn't believe! They even forgot about the cost...

It's getting better every day as it runs in, so I am totally satisfied with it now. But...

1.) [see topic "Worry about my CDS"] - I am afraid I will have to have my CDS rebuilt to a CDS2...

2.) Do you think I am now unburden from the upgrade-illness for at least some years?! I hope so... Only the Fraim-thing is still in my mind...

After completing this large step I feel that the gear is now much more value for money, Much MUCH more! But that's not the most important point...

It brings the music much closer to my inside. This is very important to me! And after all, I don't own a car smile

How many brownie points did you have to save up to get your wife to allow an upgrade like that!

Amazing!

If you're happy with your system don't read on come back in 3 months time ........................

OK youve opened pandoras box

1. Borrow a Fraim for the sources for a weekend from your dealer
2. If not already done so buy the black burndies
3. Ditto the black SNAICS
4. Go CDS2

Youve done it now..............

4. Dem the 500.....rather good!
5. Dem the NBLs.....ditto!

6. Dem the 2 together.......must say I was disappointed........was it the dealers dem room?

AND it still hasnt ended, the new preamps here in Feb!!!!!

1. will do later...
2. SC-52 and SC-Snaxo are already black burndys
3. Snaics are all black; the interconnect CDS-52 is grey...?
4. CDS2/black burndy: as soon as the transport of my CDS dies...
500, NBL, etc: want to buy LPs and CDs with that money!

Hi Jun,

I have noticed your thread for a while, as your system were quite similar to mine, as no many forum regulars went active with lesser system (ie. 3-series), I used to have

CD 3.5/Hi-Cap
NAC92R/Flat-Cap
NAP90/3 X 2
SNAXO2-4/Flat-Cap
SBL

I have also upgraded (Brand new, ouch!!!) this summer to

CDSII/XPS/NAC82/Hi-Cap/NAP250/SBL

Yes, back to passive, the sound is amazing, I am still holdng on SNAXO2-4, just in case, like you, I didn't tell my wife until the dealer come for installation, you probably can imagine the scene??

Your upgrade would be even better with 4 X NAP135 and NAP52/Supercap? As I promised my wife that it would be the last upgrade, as I would focus on the AV system (Denon 3802/Proac CC one centre/REL strata III/Intro as rear). But I still tempted to go get another 250 & Hi-Cap or Supercap for active, that would eb the final touch.

What my worry is the humming and buzzing noise from XPS/NAP250/Hi-Cap, Naim people said it's the mains problem, I am trying to find solutions, ie. dedicated power supply, I have bought the silencer from Russ Andrews (It didn't cure the humming, but did alter the images and soundstage, also cut out some of the sweet treble though in my opinion). I would also like to try Mana Soundbases for SBL (GBP 175.-), it's worth to try.

Happy listening!

Cheers
Martin

Well Done!!

My old SC looks much happier in its new surroundings. Poor thing never met a 52 in England.

Best,

Alex

BTW, I'm sorry to say they're right; a system like that deserves Fraim or Star Base (audition both if you can).

>I trust you've got some spare SBL drivers
>for when Simon reaches house party age?

He loves the naim, he is allowed to adjust volume on the 52 and to push the play-button on the CDS. He has already 2 CDs...

Until now he never touched the speakers!

but surely your 52 would be happier without a SNAXO mounting it?

Suprised this hasn't been mentioned...
