Currently have a fully "Naimed" LP12 with prefix/HiCap,82 x2 HiCaps[soon to be S'cap],250,SBLs.Cartridge 4yrs old & thinking of change.Looking for something a little less overbearing in treble especially as I like string quartets[which can be strident at the best of times].Was wondering about Dynavector or Ortofon.Budget approx.£750.I hear there is a replacement for the Lydian Beta:anyone heard that yet?

A big vote for the "Ortofon Kontrapunkt b" cartridge. Extremely tuneful and atmospheric with a controlled treble, while maintaining a high involvement and immersion factor.

The Ortofon KontrapunktB is bang on the money at £750. Excellent pace, although not the best tonally. If you prefer tone, then Dynavector's XX2 is the one to have although that breaks the budget big time at £1000. The Dynavector isn't as pacey however.
I prefer the Dynavector, but I am biassed since I use a Te Kaitora which I think is the bee's knees, and I used to use a DV 17D2 before that.
Try to get a demo of the two cartridges in a Naim'd LP12. They are quite different to each other and the dem is relatively easy since they're the same height and use the same boards, so all that's needed is two armtops - piece of cake. Incidentally, the Ortofon is quite a bit louder than the Dynavector which has nearly half the output.

Frank.

My vote is for the XX2. Derek at NAF in Loughborough on 01509 246002 can dem this in an LP12/Naim system
