Lotus Cars 40th birthday celebrations last Sunday...

I know this is a bit belated, but did anyone go to Hethel in Norfolk last Sunday to have a look around the Lotus Cars factory? I was there and was struck by the similarity in how they do things there that reminded me of Naim's factory - albeit on a lot bigger scale! The dedication, professionaism, attention to detail and pride in their products is evident everywhere at Lotus. Needless to say the cars on display were stunning. Some of them were simply works of art.

It's just a shame that their workforce seems to be working under constant redundancy notices.

...and Colin Chapman's most enduring design, the Lotus/Caterham seven is 50yrs old this year, and still tearing up the tarmac.

Tony Lockhart,

I have to say I checked out your comments about Lotus employess under constant threat of redundancies - I see your point. It seems the fortunes of Lotus Cars are, or have been a bit wobbly. I got the impression that things were going well for them at this time. Whether that is true or not I can't say. I will say that I saw many fantastic looking cars while I was there. I hope they do well as they make a wonderful product - and that from someone who doesn't even drive!

Err. You could be forgiven for falling for the performance and style, but things must have changed if what you say is true.

It wasn't for fun that LOTUS was said to stand for: Loads Of Trouble, Usually Serious.

Neighbour of mine bought the tee-shirt, great drive though.
