Where to site a FC2

Posted by: HTK on 13 October 2002

Hello all.
Even after 6 months, the honeymoon period with the CD5 isn't over - what a wonderful player!
Funds now permit a FC2. I've read all the threads about FC2 vs S/HHi and I think I'll get the best result with the former.
But where to site it? Can the FC2 and CD5 be stacked or is it best to keep a distance between them?
Are there any components which I should avoid placing the FC2 next to.
Thank you.

Harry the FC2 will need to be sited on a seperate shelf with plenty of space.

If possible try to keep the FC2 as far away as possible from the power amps and speakers you will tend to find that the transformer fields will interfere and cause a humming sound.

Hi Harry,

consensus seems to be transformer fields are vertical rather than horizontal. So on no account stack the FC2 and the CD5 on top of each other, no matter how pretty it looks.

Naim recommends shelves allowing for something like ten or twelve enches open space between the components, if memory serves.

However if it's possible to place components next to each rather than above / underneath, it's a whole different story.

Try to keep power cables and signal cables seperate, too.
