Two wonderful records - I think "Warrior" is Hawkwind's finest.

I've just ordered Willie Nelson's "Stardust" on 180g vinyl from Elusive Disc. It was offered as a standard LP or four 45rpm LPs for an extra US$20. I chose the latter out of curiosity. I'm not certain, but I get the impression that although they are played at 45rpm, they are actually 12 inch size.
Does anyone have experience with this? Is there an audiophile reason for offering it as four 45rpm LPs?

12" 45 rpm is perfect soundwise. There is a reason is was the de facto standards in the nineties for clubmusic!!

Out of curiosity I bought 45rpm 'supercut' versions of two of my old favourite Three Blind Mice jazz records from the 70's (Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio, Midnight Sugar and Misty.)
They are each on two 12" discs and sound great, much more dynamic than the originals, which were pretty good themselves. Playing times are, ahem, not great, down to 6'39 per side.

Do you know of any local mail order services for LPs? There are plenty in the US and UK but the delivery costs to Australia are horrific.

No I don't, unfortunately. I've been buying mail order from the US and what I can find locally new & s/hand in the shops.
Quality of the US stuff is very good, but with the exchange rate and freight, as you say, fairly pricey.

I was in there on Thursday, went through every LP in the shop, new and s/h, without success.
Now I think about it, I did have a dim awareness that they do mail order, but never bothered because there was more available o/s. Having a look now, their mail order list is more extensive than it was a few years ago, and certainly far above what they carry in the shop. I'll give them a go.

Have you been to Audiophile Utopia in Chatswood? http://www.geocities.com/audiophile_utopia/ The owner's a guy from Hong Kong who knows his stuff and last time I went there (a few years ago) he had plenty of audiophile vinyl, particularly jazz.

Picked up a few albums from a chap locally who was selling his record player and who, when I asked him, was also selling his vinyl collection. I got these for a total price of £17.00 including plastic covers and whsmith poly inners:
Bob Marley - Uprising + Natty Dread
The Smiths - Hatful of Hollow
New Order - Power & Corruption, Brotherhood + Low-life
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper (with the insert!)
Sisters of Mercy - Floodland
Lone Justice - Lone Justice + Shelter
Little Feat - Down on the Farm
All spotlessly clean and sounding fantastic - should keep me busy for a little while.
