A quick visit to the s/h shops resulted in...

The Fall - 458489 A-Sides

I wanted to buy Pixies - Bossanova and Can - Incandescence, but the guy wanted £15 each for them, which seemed a bit harsh to me, given he had a couple of copies of each of them, and neither were in the best of condition.
Posted on: 20 March 2004 by Not For Me
The last vinyls I bought were:

Kraftwerk - Aerodynamik

The Liars - They were wrong so we drowned

Mekon, I agree £15 is a bit top heavy for a second hand LP that is not ultra rare.
Mind you, in the last week I have shelled out $50 for one rare CD and 48 Euros for a rare 12" single. I must be mad!

Can - Tago Mago

From the Can website, which looked dead expensive until I read it was Canadian dollars, and that shipping is only £2.70!

Mekon goes Krautrock!

Enjoy Tago Mago - I think it is the best Can LP, there is something magikal about Halleuwah and Augmn

On a Krauthop theme, Did you get the Faust / Dalek collaboration 7"s. I never sppotted them anywhere?

David

The Sixtoo/Damo EP (did you pick it up?) has stuck in my head, and so today has seen a frenzy of downloading, and at the mo' Faust - Faust and So Far and Neu! - Neu! are on my shopping list. Any other recommendations would be very welcome.

I haven't chased down the Dalek/Faust things because the Dalek album didn't do alot for me, although to be honest, when I bought it, I was on a major anticon binge. I may have to give it another try.

Pinch is on repeat on my iPAQ at the mo'. My better half reckons it sounds like Fela Kuti doing jazz, whereas I hear Stone Roses - Something's Burning.
Posted on: 22 March 2004 by Not For Me
Sideshow , thanks for the linkage, I know you are in the know as fas as Faust go.

Mekon IMHO So Far is the best Faust LP, so you are doing well 'So Far' Some of the more recent releases are less formed and therfore less engaging.

Which Neu is for you ? Try Neu 2

I think I can guess the expensive second hand record shop - well know for £15 albums. Wax Factor?

I will look out for the Sixto record, although like you and Dalek I haven't been too fussed on previous form

Yup, Wax Factor. I shouldn't gripe, but you have to look pretty hard for a bargain.

BTW, if you haven't heard it, you can here the track with Damo here.

Cheers for the tips, I'll keep an eye out for Neu 2.

Mekon,

Ah! I guessed right. The chief bloke in there is a bit of a misery isn't he? I find it a bit unerving that somebody follows you downstairs and watches you whilst you leaf through the crates, but that be because:

a) I look a bit shabby and can't be trusted
b) Brighton has a tea leaf problem.
c) The staff are all odd and enjoying watching punters flick.

quote from David S

Agreed, but you need to experience the mighty "You Doo Right" from the first album "Monster Movie". I do think, however, that "Future Days" from '73 is Can's best LP. It really is quite, quite beautiful.

I also have to disagree with David about Neu! 2. It has its moments, but too much of it is waffle (they apparently ran out of money midway through recording). Neu!'s masterpiece is undoubtedly Neu! 75, which was hugely influential on peopl like Bowie, Eno and the artier end of punk. It is one of the best albums evr made IMO, and the pening track "Isi" still gives me shivers down the spine.

Kevin

PS - to get back on topic, my last vinyl purchases:

Kraftwerk - Areo Dynamik 12"
Fripp/Eno - No Pussyfooting
John Coltrane - Giant Steps
Posted on: 24 March 2004 by sideshowbob
I'd have to disagree about Neu 2 as well. Either Neu (for "Hallogallo" mostly) or Neu '75 for me. Probably, on balance, Neu '75. Neu 2 is pretty half-baked in comparison.

Posted on: 24 March 2004 by Not For Me
Well,

the best solution to the Neu dilemma is to buy 1, 2, 75, and if you like them, buy 4, and the the Captain Trip releases, then Harmonia, then La Dusseldorf, then the Rother and Dinger solo works.

It's like a drug you see - Once started, it is difficult to stop.....

I think the only problem with this thread is that most posts are a list of 10+ lp's with no feedback on how they sound or what country of origin. It makes pretty boring reading.

Do you not think it would be better to narrow your list down to two or three and say how they sound?

I've just bought The Doors rereleases "LA Woman" and "Morrison Hotel" from a German pressing plant. These are taken from the original master tape and sound extremely good. I can't decide yet whether the LA Woman sounds better than the DCC pressing. Morrison Hotel was not released by DCC, so this German one is the best I've heard.

These were bought from my trusty old Vivante.

I think this thread is dead useful. I use it as a 'buyers who bought this also bought...' guide. There is the 'Nick's head' thread for reviews, so it's not like people aren't giving opinions.

Which from the reviews sounds like it better represents the feel of Lidells live act than his solo album. Any Jamie Lidell fans got an opinion?
