H,

It was an internet purchase, and the mixes on it are :

'Armed Forces' is a great album. Love that bass break on 'Goon Squad'.

PS Dave S - 'Martine McCutcheon - On the Radio (Pants and Corset Club mix)'. This is what happens when you buy too much stuff. Quality control goes out the window Big Grin.

Anyone heard the Throbbing Gristle remix thing yet?

Tim
Posted on: 12 April 2004 by Not For Me
Tim,

I've got the the TG remix project on vinyl and CD - each has at least one/two unique tracks. There is also a mini remix MP3 on the Mute web site. Both are in the 'to be listened to' piles.

Whats wrong with Pants & Corset?

Pants (or is it Corset?) runs a decent hard house / trance record shop in Bournemeouth that I frequent.

Quite poor, apart from the "Persuasion" mix. Too many obvious remixes ("United", "Hot on the Heels of Love", etc, in other words, things that were already basically mutant disco). I'd like to hear what could be done with "Weapon Training" or "We Hate You Little Girls" or "Discipline" myself...

Dom,

My main job is being a music lover and buying records, but I do have to work as a wage slave in an office to pay for my habit. Smile

I listen at home, whilst on of the wireless internet, in car to tapes/CDs, and whilst watching the TV with the sound down.

Matthew Herbert Big Band - Goodbye Swingtime

Saw them on tour with Bugge Wesseltoft last night. If the LP is half as much fun as them live, this will be great. It was as if Adrian Sherwood had gotten into big band jazz. Lots of delay and live sampling, they made a really good noise.

The rest of the tour dates are:

15 :: Leicester DeMontford Hall
16 :: Bristol Colston Hall
20 :: Manchester Bridgewater Theatre
22 :: Edinburgh Usher Hall
23 :: Coventry Arts Centre
28 :: Northampton Derngate Theatre
29 :: London Barbican

Went bananas (well, perhaps not on the Slater scale) in Notting Hill again at the weekend. Results:

1. Ninja Tunes retrospective AND the Ninja Tunes restrospective remixes all on vinyl Big Grin

2. Talking Heads '77. Mint. Lovely. I'd forgotten how good it was.

3. Funki Porcini 'Car Wreck' EP including Squarepusher remix. Hmmm.

4. Iggy Pop 'Instinct'. In many ways this is a shite record. But it's good for loud rock moments and features Steve Jones on yob guitar.

5. Skinhead retrospective 'Liquidator'. This is early skin music - ska and roots from the late sixties - none of that hardcore cack. Excellent.

6. Bach - Cello Suites 5 and 6, Pierre Fournier, DG Archiv. Been looking for this on vinyl for ages. Lovely.

2 charity shop purchases for me, too:

Charlie - 'Fantasy Girls'. Purchased because I recognised the name of the drummer - I now realise that that was because he appears on the FBI's 'Most Bouffant' list.

38 Special - 'Special Forces'. Purchased because there was a Van Zant in the band so I was expecting some Skynyrd-style boogie. Haven't listened to this enough to come up with a suitably pithy comment.

Well, the last vinyl record I bought was :

Aural Exciters - Spooks In Space
[An original Ze record from back in the '80s]

Charity Shops: I've never been that sucessful in getting any great bargains - The odd Mantovani / Kaempfert / Joe Loss / James Last record, but never any Cologne Shuffle Fever, New York Hard Trance or original punk 7"s

Now if you like Cliff Richard / The Sound of Music soundtrack / Paul Young / Erasure, you will be spoilt for choice!

OTD - Deep Piece - Panoramic Shuffle (I'm having a bit of a Limbo retrospective at the moment)

Big!

Yes I have now seen the light!

Rather then buying music I might enjoy or find stimulating, I shall try to restrict myself twhat is available in Woolworths or the local Age Concern!

I should then be able to have unrestrained consumption! Never mind the quality, feel the quantity!

btw, Last weekend I scouted round the charity shops in Dorchester for vinyl, and in Oxfam witnessed a sketch straight out of the League of Gentlemen, with the old dears behind the counter bickering with the customers over the right change, whether to supply a plastic bag or not, and who left the door open. Laugh? I nearly pissed me pants!
