Can anybody recommend an inexpensive mains block?Anything would be an improvement on my rather adhoc existing arrangement!

Oooh you'll start something off on this forum talking about mains blocks!
Main (doh) purveyors seem to be musicworks, or you could get a hydra (Grahams gets talked about alot here), or you could go the whole mains spurs way and max it!
how many plugs are involved?
andy c!

Right - 'ere goes....
a) Using a 4-way block you have: wall socket - mechanical plug connection - fuse in plug - screw terminals in plug - 2m cable - screw terminals in plugboard - possible internal fuse in plugboard - possible more internal connections in plugboard - possible LED in plugboard - plugboard sockets - equipment cable plug physical connection into plugboard socket - fuse in plug - screw terminals in plug - 2m cable - screw terminals in IEC plug - IEC physical connection into equipment.
b) With a Hydra you cut out most of the connections, giving : wall socket - mechanical plug connection - fuse in plug - screw terminals in plug - 2m cable - screw terminals in junction - 2m cable - screw terminals in IEC plug - IEC physical connection into equipment. You can also more easily use the same type of cable (and in the same direction too!). Grahams make a Hydra using original Naim mains cables (which some say sound best anyway.)
c) A variation on a hydra is to have several wires coming out of a single wall plug (Maplin sell a suitable plug).
d) Some people try and lose all fuses, relying on the mans circuit's circuit breaker (MCB) to protect them.
e) Some people re-wire their mains with higher grade cabling, and use bigger plugs for a better contact.
And that's only the start of it...

Or get dedicated home generators? Or Naim-only hydrogen fuel cells? Or hook their "kit" (as you Brits call it) up to their exercise bikes? (Just having some fun here.)

Okay, okay. But that is about the level I'm at at the moment, however I have a thousand and one potential upgrades to make since I started visiting this forum and all because I blew the dust off my naims in the attic!

You did what!!!
How dare you abuse you're NAIM like that.
You realise that one of the tweaks recommended on this froum is to allow a patina of dust to grow on the boxes. It reduces microphony.
Of course that does'nt apply to the front panel which is specially designed so 'er in doors can polish it!
