Good to see a mention of Leo Kottke on the forum, I just heard one of his CD's for the first time at the weekend, very impressive, and obviously a huge influence on Michael Hedges.

BLT, Yes it's a shame he has given up on UK gigs, his birthday is 11 sep perhaps he does not want to tempt fate.
It is my regret that i never had the chance to see Hedges i am sure he would be on the list Awesome.

Eric Clapton, Zurich, March 2004.

Yes indeed. And I've seen quite a list of guitar gigs, not only by Clapton.

I saw Michael Hedges at an outdoor summer solstice festival in Fairbanks Alaska in 1984 (he was there with fellow Windham Hiller Liz Story). It was surreal... I walked into a clearing in the woods, and there amid frolicking naked hippie babies and gently gyrating hippie grown-ups was another hippie on a flatbed trailer beating the living hell out of an acoustic guitar. I only had to listen for about five seconds before realizing I had no idea how he was making any of those sounds.

I went on to check out the sustainable gardening booth, the eco-housing demo, and the candlemaking class, but I kept going back to the show. Had I known then who Michael Hedges was, I'd have been elbowing hippies right and left to get to the front of the stage.

Great show, great memory.

I went to a Gibson Guitars gig at Earls Court (I think) years ago. Everyone was there including Slash, Gary Moore, Brian May - and Paul Rodgers played. We were waiting for Clapton or someone to do the second half, but he never showed, so we had a unique "Free" set from Paul Rodgers, Simon Kirke and they also brought on Andy Fraser. I can't remember who played guitar - I think it was a guest for each song - but I'm sure Slash played on All Right Now. Unexpected and a fab night.
Wish I could remember more about it.

I have been left oddy unimpressed by several of the great guitarists that I have seen live. I found John McLaughlin uninvolving (although Denis Chamber's drumming was mindblowing), I found Nguyen Le to be too relentless and I just couldn't get into Wayne Krantz's music.
The two guitarists that have impressed me most live are Mike Stern and Buddy Guy. I have seen Buddy Guy a couple of times and he is a fantastic showman, his impressions of other guitarists is very impressive, too.

Twice, recently seen Carvin Jones in a local pub.

I have mentioned him before but he is excellent bluesy guitarist and a good showman helped by his proximity to the audience in the intimate surroundings of a pub. He spends much of his time wandering through the audience whilst playing.

Richard Thompson, Queen's Hall, Edinburgh, Approx. Sept 1997. To date the benchmark guitar gig for me.

I'm seeing him again (seventh or eighth time - can't recall) in May, hope this gig is even better.

RT still stands as my favourite overall guitarist.

Never did see Uncle Frank though...

Just thought of another, sometime in the late seventies Rory Gallagher was due to play the Town hall Bham, we had really severe snow that day and the rest of the band and equipment never arrived, so Rory played the gig on acoustic on his own, and we still got to see him for free on the rescheduled date, and i recall he played for about 3 1/2 hours, sadly missed.
