140 new style vs 140 old style

I'm telling this because someone may have the same situation.

3 weeks ago I bought a new 72 and a used 140.
I had 2 option to get a new style 140 or an old style. The old style price was 3/4 of the new one style it means 250 US $ less.

I bought the new style and after 2 weeks the left channel stopped working. AS the dealer couldn't fix it immediately, he gave me the old style 140 for the meantime.
I was suprised to find that this one sound is not as good as the sound of the new style 140.

I told the dealer about my feelings (Ross - don't quote this !!!) and he said that the new style 140 has some electrical improvements upon the old one.

So to your knowledge, the old style 140 is not the same as the new style, not only by shape.

Hi Arie,

During the cosmetic change, new faster-switching output transistors where supplied to Naim's spec (rather than off-the-shelf devices).

The 01 output devices were indeed included in new-style 140's, but not right from the start of the series. Hence it is possible to buy a new-style 140 and have no advantage over your chrome-bumper model, apart from the locking-collar din input and a pretty green logo.
