Need tech. PC advice!

Hi, I have a Dell laptop with a DVD/cd rewriter,I used to be able to play DVD's off the internal battery, but now it distorts (blocking).They play fine when it's connected to the mains.I have tried speaking to Dell with no success and a VERY expensive phonecall.I am presuming it is something to do with the power management but don't know what.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Dell inspiron 1100,P4,Win XP.

hicapman, just a guess, but presumably you battery no longer holds enough charge for the power management to go to full P4 power. Control panel should have settings for Mains and Battery options - you could try applying the values of the mains power to the battery setting.
The batttery may not last you very long though.
