Jim Capaldi - R.I.P.

Saw the obituary in the paper today.

I think I'll spend the evening listening to my old Traffic albums, raising a glass or two of 'John Barleycorn' in his memory and probably getting a little maudlin.

Another good man gone.

Sad news Dan.

How old was he, and what was the stated cause of death?

As you say; time to dig out those old Traffic albums.

John.

John,

The piece said he was 60 and died of cancer (no variety specified).

It also suggested that, a couple of years back, Winwood and Capaldi were planning to re-form Traffic and go on the road - but that the idea was shelved when his illness was diagnosed. What a shame ... it would have been great to see them in concert.

Former Traffic drummer Jim Capaldi has passed away from stomach cancer. He was 60 years old and died in the London Clinic after a brief battle with the illness. Capaldi, born in England of Italian immigrant parents, died in his sleep at the London Clinic in the early hours with his wife and family at his bedside. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame last year just five months before his cancer was diagnosed. Capaldi worked with artists such as Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Paul Weller.

Very sad. Saw Traffic in London on their last tour in 1994, and it was a really enjoyable gig.

That's sad. I dig Traffic.

And to make matters worse, just recently Spencer Dryden, the drummer of another of my favorite bands, Jefferson Airplane, died at 66, also of cancer.

Like Mitch Mitchell of Jimi Hendrix' band, Dryden blended a lot of jazz elements with rock, making for some interesting grooves. Before the Airplane he had played gigs with Charles Lloyd, Bobby Hutcherson and Paul Bley, among others.
