Small piece of paper between the CD and the Puck

Posted by: Adam G on 20 April 2004

Hi,

Ive been having a problem with my CDI recently where the CD has trouble skipping to later tracks. I read somewhere else in this forum that putting a small piece of paper between the CD and the puck, made the puck grip the CD better.
Since trying this out, it has worked a treat and I just leave a small piece of paper by the side of the CDI now to use on every CD.
My question is, has anyone else tried this? Have they noticed any difference in sound quality after trying this?
I couldnt notice any change for the better or worse on my system, but Im using a CDI, 102, and a 180, so I know Im not at the top end of Naim kit...
Anyone else with a better system out there tried this? If so, what are the results?

Cheers

Nice... Smile
I did try pinching the rings on mine, but to no avail... Still didnt solve the slippage problem... Sorted now though with the new puck and piece of paper!

Anyone else?

On my CD3 I'm using a piece of paper between the tray and the CD. I cut a hole in it for the 'spindle' or whatever you call it. It works very well. I'm still using my first (1995) puck.

For my understanding it's not good to alter the distance between disk and laser. This may cause lot's of additional "work" for the servo regulation which will affect sound quality. You should put the paper between disk and puk.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Jun: This is what I have done. I assumed that increasing the distance between the CD and the laser would have undesired effects, so therefore didnt... Also, having a CDI (not sure how the other Naim CD players are made) I didnt want to wear out the nextel ring any quicker than it does anyway... I wasnt sure if the paper would grip the ring better, or cause slips more often...
interesting to see that other people use this fix aswell, and the fact that it works!
The distance of a piece of paper between the puck and CD, I wouldnt have thought would have made any difference!
Just goes to show...

stroke your puck rubbers with Blu-Tak. No really.
