Guitars galore...and it's the blues
Posted by: Geoff P on 22 January 2005
I am sitting here watching disk 1 of a double DVD "Eric Clapton CROSSROADS Guitar Festival"
Apart from Clapton jhave had solos from Doyle Bramhall, Buddy Guy & Robert Randall. B.B. has just walked on. Looking forward to the likes of JJ Cale, Joe Walsh, John McLaughlin, Eric Johnson, Robert Cray, Santana & ZZ Top.
Can't be bad...In fact it's bloody good so far and there's 4 hours of it.
Worth checking out

No doubt you have seen it all by now? Really excellent stuff. As a diehard J.J Cale fan (since I first heard him on Whispering Bob's Radio1 show in '73) it was great to see and hear him. I thought he and Eric played really well together.
The ZZ Top closer is fun! Had to laugh at the wind interfering with the beards!
By the way, I value you r knowledge as shared on the equipment forum. I've just embarked on the Naim journey with a CD5x, which is a wonderful bit of kit.
Regards
Chris

Yep I have and I agree about JJ Cale. I just got "to Tulsa & Back" which is excellent and worth having.
Not to everybody's taste perhaps but I was blown away by John Mayer. I just got his "room for Squares" on the strength of his performance on the DVD. Not quite as good as that but still pretty good.
As for Joe Walsh he came over as floating 3 feet above the ground but boy can he play.
Thanks for the nice comment

Hi Geoff
"To Tulsa and Back" is a real return to form for JJ.(Not that he ever has a really off day!). I have ended up with 2 copies - paniced that my son had taken the first one and left me with an empty jewel box. Turned out I had slipped it into my wife's car CD changer! Doh!
Slightly off topic, I am delighted to have got tickets for the Thursday of the Cream shows at the Royal Albert Hall at the beginning of May. Saw the farewell gig there in '68!
Saw EC there last May - he was in awesome form.
I can't wait to move my amplification from Quad to Naim.(Commission cheque pending!) I think the CD5x already has increased my listening pleasure a huge amount. Be a while before I have a rig to rival yours though!
Cheers

£250? where were you looking? ebay?
The tickets were £50, £75, £125. The catch was to know that they were on sale from 9am last Monday. As late as the previous Thursday the RAH box office was denying a date had been set. All the tickets had gone in a little over 3 hours.
Anyone who isloaded might want to look on ebay where they seem to be going for around £800+, but even if you receive genuine tickets the RAH is threatening to refuse entry to tickets bought from touts.

Jez is right.Getting through to the published number required a lot of perseverance and dumb luck. The website collapsed under the weight too, so that was no help. Having said that the whole system seems very iffy as the ticket agencies seem to have been allocated the vast majority of the seats and the RAH box office wasn't involved. £125 seems a lot, but for a once in a lifetime event I thought it was worthwhile.
I'm sure Jack, Eric and Ginger will deliver!
Cheers
