What kind of speakercable are you using?

Posted by: Robbert on 13 March 2004

Now, the topic title says it all.

Is it the NACA5 or an ordinairy speakercable? like a kimber or siltech.

Is kimber a bad cable to use with an NAIM NAIT5?
And how long must a NACA5 speaker cable be"ing

Hi Robbert,

I have very good experience with Kimber cable on a Naim amp.
In fact, there are 3 HiFI shops in my area that sell Naim (Rinsma HiFi, Musifoon, and Art in Sound, which unfortunately has gone recently)
Now, all these 3 shops don't use Naim's NACA5 cable!
I also have a friend who's using a Nait-2 for about 8 to 10 years now, and he's also using Kimber cable, and it sounds great.
(the blue/black twisted one)

So, about 90% of all Naimoholics on this forum will tell ya to go for Naca5 (which is a great cable, but stiff as bamboo) but if it's possible try both cables at home.
(btw, another great and cheap cable is Cable-talk 3.1 at 4,50 euro a meter)

Good luck.

regards,

I changed to the original CableTalk 3 years ago and have no intention of changing. I can't easily get Naim cable here anyway and postal charges would probably be prohibitive. I believe CableTalk is very similar to Naim in appearance without the stiffness often referred to. As to sound quality differences I have no comparison to go by.

I have in the past used some Gale 315 cable on the 72/140.

It was the cable I had in place when I replaced my previous amp a Denon 250Se with the 72/140 and although inexpensive did sound balanced with Ruark Speakers.

I have subsequently changed to NAC 5 and it does sound better.

Nordost Blue Heaven which is expensive I found to be very musical; particularly when using a 72/hicap/250 and Epos ES22 speakers.

The cheaper Nordost flatline seemed to be too bright for me. more detail in the treble than NAc5, but not so relaxing to listen to.

When I had a 112/150 I ended up using speaker cable which came from my speaker supplier (Totem) because it gave a richer more controlled sound with less "sharp edges".

I now have a 282/250mkii and am back on NACA5. The Totem cable was useless on the 250. There is much more of everything with the NAC.

Conclusion: There is'nt one rule for all! I think the 5 series in common with the new 5i are purposely designed to be less sensitive to things like speaker cable and even non naim pre-amps etc. so I would certainly recommend trying out cable other than NAC especially on a NAIT or 150.

since 7 years i use flatline nordost and it
worked with a lot of different amps and speakers.Maybe not the best cable in the world but the most
neutral cable of the good ones i know.
did not like kimber and siltech,do not know naim cable (until now).before flatline i have had vdh 122(quite ok but no competitor to Flatline imo

Hi,
I have just borrowed some NACA5 from my dealer to do the compare with Kimber 4pr (I think this is the cable mentioned above).

I have just changed back from Kimber interconnects to Naim ones due to the more revealing and 3d sound they now give (they didn't pre the spur upgrades)

I'll let the kit warm up again before trying the naim cable as i've just installed 2nd rack of Fraim....

So i can use any cable. Only if it sounds.
I've some cable talk 3.1 and i've some kimber 4 VS. so i can make an expiriment.

before i will forget it; I've got my NAIT 5 for only € 700,- (is that a normal price) and he is just 5 month old Cool
