Hip Music for Kids (Age 2-4)?

Say No To Rafi

I'm trying to buy my wonderful little nephew some tunes for his birthday. I found Trout Fishing In America, Dan Zanes, and Ralph's World but I don't want the boy thinking all music is performed by white people on banjos, acoustic guitars, and fiddles. The V/A Brazilian Lullaby and African Lullaby albums seemed more like it, but are lyrics in a foreign language bad at his age? They Might Be Giants' "No!" also seemed neat.

Any recommendations from the parents out there (he's 2, but unlike his uncle he's a bit smarter than his peer group)?

I dunno; my mum loved Suede's first album when it came out (even the bit with "f***ing with a slip of a man"), and she raved about Nirvana's MTV Unplugged when my mate brought it round.

My dad rated Tori Amos when he heard it.

Neither of them liked the best of the Doors though - I think "When the music's over" put them off. Apparently the drumming was too "hard" sounding. Urm, ok...

Beats mum's awful Taize chants, hymns, and most of dad's showtunes. Mind you, dad likes Flanders and Swann as well so he does have some taste...

THAT IS pretty cool ! I would imagine the MILFs go crazy when he turns up to collect his kid. I had "Pictures for Pleasure" (?) on tape, when, 20 years ago ? Sadly stolen from my car. I think that after the massive hype/critical backlash he vowed never to release another recording again ? Wasted on Dylan.
