Newbie query - CDX2

Posted by: Biffopristinus on 28 March 2004

Hi, I would appreciate some advice on a problem that I have with my newly purchased CDX2.
About once or twice every CD it has a habit of momentarily faltering during play back. I've checked the CDs and they look clean and free from dust. I've also noticed that it is generally not possible to recreate the error if I rewind and replay over the same place. On two ocassions the message 'Error' was displayed in the window and the player stopped entirely.
I'm wondering if this is something that will disappear once the player runs in, or if I have a problem on my hands. I've notified my dealer and he is checking with Naim but I thought I would seek the benefit of this group's advice too.

Not much help but I have never had any problem like that on mine (been running for almost a year)

The only issue is if it is when you play "copy protected" disks. If so go here:

http://forums.naim-audio.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=67019385&f=48019385&m=8411968776

where it explains how to check if your CDX2 has the firmware upgrade that cures that problem. It should if it is brand new but you never know.

Describe the problem to the dealer and be prepared to take it in for a check - do not waste time swapping opinions with people that cannot hear or see the machine.

Hi,
Just to echo the comments above - get your dealer involved - but sometimes there is good advice on this forum re such things...

'Once or twice on every CD' sounds like a mains spike to me.

Try unplugging anything that is cycling on and off and could be causing this - Fridge/freezer/immersion heater/boiler etc:

A brand new CDX2 should be coping with copy protected discs.

Good luck.

hi biffo,
i recently got a 6 mth old cdx2 and one of the 1st cds i played was the "coded" peppers album .
greatest hits. it played perfectly whereas my old olive cdx would skip on the first couple of seconds of every track. so i would confer with most opinions that if youve got a new cdx2 it shouldnt be playing up.
take it back to your dealer they will sort it for you.
hope this helps

Hi,

The first dealer demo CDX2 I've purchased refused to read the first track on some discs.

Replacment second CDX2 also had developed the same problem but it worked if I press the 'play' button twice. ( not all the time. Some of the time ) this unit was returned to the UK for a serious overhaul.

A loaner CDX2 also had the same problem.

Send it back to the dealer.

Other than the above mishaps CDX2/XPS2 was a fabulous player.

Thanks for all your comments. They were a great help in giving me some perpective to the problem. The good news is that Naim have agreed to replace the CDX2 with a new machine. True, the original one was brand new, I only took delivery last Friday, but excellent no-quibble after sales service from both Naim and my dealer nonetheless.

Thanks again
