I guess they'd be sure to mention it if it was there, so I reckon it isn't!
The mid and bass drivers are exactly the same as each other, but tuned/crossovered to different frequency bands. The low (physically and in frequency terms) driver is where it is to ensure a certain amount of boundary reinforcement as bass pressure waves bounce off the floor.
Cheers!
Richard.
Inactively enjoying it all...
Do not know if they are ported or not,but since i have
kan 3( ported)i do not dare anymore to say that
ported designs have an hearable other sort of bass. I also compared thiel 0.5 (ported) and thiel 1.5 (passive radiator) definitly very similar in bass (ok 1.5 is a bigger speaker but
no other sort of bass.)
As along time thiel user i am very intrested
in first comments on arriva sound.
imo the non vertical construction of front
brings three (theoretical benefits)better mechanical chassis phase correction, more housing rigidity and less distortion inside the housing (no parallel walls)
the second and the third you can also do with
vertical housing wall.
the problems start with the fact that the tweeter is now vertical of axis of the listening place and therefore problems with
indirect wall reflections.(the real reason for what
is said about thiel or wilson sensational two dimensional imaging.same with vecteur premiere and reference3a)
if you produce vertical housing wall with steps
you can also get perfect mechanical phase
but you get distortion because of edges of housing.
It is imo impossible to say that a mechanical
phase corrected speaker has another (or better
sound than a one with electrical corrected phase frequency crossover.(i am talking about passive crossover)
Never would go back to thiels, but intrested
in new arriva sound(which should hopefully have synergy with naim amps.)
