PC putting distortion on the mains - any cure?
Posted by: J.N. on 13 April 2004
To get the best sound out of my system (even with a separate spur) I have to unplug my PC, and other 'naughty' items from the ring-main.
Is there anything commercially available that I can put between the PC and the mains to stop its sonically degrading effect?

A switch.

Thank you Basil.
The available wealth of knowledge is what makes this forum such a delight.
I want to keep the PC powered up.
Try again.

I remember reading there are PSUs available that do not throw back noise into the ring-mains.
You'll have to do a search I'm afraid.
I'll admit I may have misread or it could be a figment of my imagination...

Have you tried a Uninterruptable Power supply to power the PC - I do not know if it will help but it does add a layer of isolation between the mains and the PC and also protects you from blackouts and brownouts
UPS are available quite cheaply on EBay
