AV2 and 6/7.1

Roll Eyes
Hi Naimies,
I have an 7.1 construction with an AV2 and Rotel RDV1060 DVDplayer. Everthing plays fine, but my AV2 is not able to recognize DolbyDigital 5.1EX material. I can manually select EX, but this works with every 5.1 Material and sounds worse. DTS ES matrix and discrete works fine, also neo6. All Speakers are connectes, also the Backsurroundspeakers.
What helps? Is this a softwarebug or isn“t the AV2 able to decode DD 5.2 EX?
Thanks
Olaf

I believe a DVD needs to be "tagged" before a processor will automatically recognise it.

I don't think there are that many DD EX DVD's around. You're probably hearing the AV2's "best attempts" with software that wasn't designed for DD EX.

Check your AV2 software version:
press and hold OSD on the remote. Tell us what you read.
It should be P106 or AVC0102.
If the numbers are lower (P105 for example) contact your dealer to upgrade.

Olaf,

If you read the decoding table in the AV2 manual, you will see that with DDEX encoded discs - if AUTO is set as the decoding option it will read it as a 5.1 disc only, EX does have to be manually assigned. AS far as I'm aware (anybody, please feel free to correct me), the extra channel on EX discs is matrix encoded on playback and is not a discrete channel as on a 6.1 DTS-ES disc which the AV2 does read correctly with AUTO selected.

I have a few DDEX discs and I actually do not like it and halfway through the last one I watched switched back to 5.1. However, I have 3 or 4 DTS-ES discs which are bloody marvellous.

I do have the latest software version mentioned above by Manu.

Nick.

Oups,
Yes Nick, you are right. DDex is not automatically selected.
I always promote a better 5.1 over a 6 or 7.1.

Thanks for your response.
Nick, I have different decoding tables with different ages. You can manually select EX with every 5.1 and 5.1EX material. The effect is always the same and there is no difference btn DD and DDEX. So I have the suspicion, that the AV2 is not able to recognize and decode DDEX stuff and offers for both a fake 7.1 mode. My former Rotel was able to recognize DDEX stuff. Or even not with my actual software(P209 f421, new software is ordered).
But maybe there is another mistake i cannot find????
By the way, my dealer told me that there will be another update within the next three months what will also bring a sound improovement.
greets Olaf
