Hum with P9 and Stageline

Posted by: Steve C. on 12 April 2004

I now have my P9/Denon DL-103D hooked up to the Stageline, and am getting hum. It goes away when I have the TT unpluged from the Stageline. Tried floating grounds on the TT power supply and the FlatCap to no avail. I believe I read that it was possible to disconned the ground inside the P9, but I didn't follow how to do that. I will say that, listening around the hum, the Stageline is doing some very nice things compared to my EAR834P, even just powered from the 112 (need to get a 5 pin to 4 pin cable to run it from the FlatCap.)

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

The turntable hum you are describing may be because the system is not attached anywhere to mains earth. Try running a lead from the earth of a mains plug, plugged into the wall, then attach it to the earth terminal of the stageline. Is there a CD player attached as well? Does the hum go away if this is disconnected? Let me know how you get on.

Best,

Chris Murphy.
