....what's the intended system, i.e. CDX2/XPS2 -> CDS3 with 282 = awesome, CDX2/XPS2 -> CDS3 with 252 = awesome+X (where X = awesome)....

Ben,
When I bought my CDS3 from my dealer we put it on to have a listen and compare it to his CDX2/XPS2. Before doing so he did warn me that his CDX2/XPS2 had been well run in and was warmed up, I presume in case I was dissapointed. However, sticking the CDS3 on completely transformed the track we had just listened to. I can't remember what the track was but when the drums came in it made us both jump!
I'd start saving if I were you.

Hello Sean, this is not what I wanted to hear,oh well,what do you use it with,thanks,Ben r...also is the top loader easy to use etc

Ben, I have a 552 a 500 and DBLs. I had a CDS2 before it almost since it came out so using the top loading is now very intuitive for me. More hands on than a loading drawer. I don't know if Naim just kept this as a design feature for their top of the line CD player as other manufacturers have stated that gasketing around the CD drawer when closed brings added improvements. However, I wont be changing and most CD loading trays seem really plasticky to me. Enjoy the CDS3.

Ben,
Sean has always had an incredible system! I lived very near him for a few years and even then his 6 pack Isobarik system was pretty amazing. Apart from that though, Sean is really my musical long lost twin - especially when it comes to Jazz. He has introduced me to music that I will never forget. I haven't heard his DBLs yet though

So as one Jazz fan to another viewing from the lowlands of a CDX2/282/250 with an XPS2 on the way is the CDS3 particularly good at Jazz? I assume so but since it is my "main" sound I ma interested.

Geoff,
You really don't need to worry, the CDS3 is great with all types of music. It is a different type of sound to the old CDS2 but if all you have known is a CDX2 you are in for a big treat when it arrives. The reality of the sound is second to none.
If you don't have a CDS3 then the mantra is 'START SAVING'.

....having come form CDX2->CDX2/XPS2->CDS3, the CDS3 is so far ahead in terms of the emotional experience it makes you regret not selling the House & Car and going for the CDS3 straight away, missing out on the intermediate stages.....
