Padded Cell entropy?

Is it just me or are things slowing down in the Padded Cell? Dying a heat death, as it were.

I always found it another reason not to believe.
Supreme Being and having to watch all the nonsense that Man gets up to - don't watch East Enders either.

I don't know if God exists, but it would be better for His reputation if He didn't. -John Buchan

I sympathise. For me, however, the great question, "why is there something and not nothing?" is answered by the belief that before matter came consciousness rather than the reverse.

I do like the transvestite potter's comment that he didn't mind people having invisible friends he just didn't like it when they thought their invisible friend could run his life too...

I used to have an invisible friend but I haven't seen him for a while ............
Posted on: 17 February 2005 by Adam Meredith
I started in philosophy with "If I was not me - who would I be?" Always seemed that consciousness needed an expression and didn't much care who/what it was.

Unfortunately I've lost mine too, six feet tall he was, made a hell of a lot of pies though ! Razz

N.B. Seriously though, Stings "Invisible People" is one of my favourite tracks, and I often think of them, innit.

Fritz and his pies....
Looking back at this thread it would appear the old forum was a lot more volatile than it is at present. As a newcomer I wasn't too sure if real malice was intended in some postings and on balance that is still the case.[though I'm learning] There seems to be at times quick retaliation rather than a cooling off period and a more considered approach being taken. On the otherhand the series of punch and counter punch when done with wit or humour makes the forum an enjoyable experience for us all.
Topics which don't require a wealth of knowledge but are controversial in themselves seem to gain better responses. The forum does tend to tilt to the left as Deane has mentioned so it may be a good thing if some members played Devils Advocate to ensure a balanced approach. Of course they could run the risk of picking up a label they don't want, but this could be solved by starting off IMDO{in my dishonest opinion].

IMHO,

To be to the right of the forum 'mob' and to be labelled as such, can only be a good thing.

Big Grin

But the burning question Steve, is whether you are still to the left of Mick Parry?

A good thing too? Yeah, even doubly blessed?

No, I think Mick's still a joker to me; you're still a clown.

However, I suspect that the order is rapidly fading and the first one now will later be last.

Steve

I'm not sure whether that's acerbic, witty or both.

FWIW I've never read your politics as particularly conservative. Informed by different motives and interests and loyalties, perhaps, than those with whom contentious matters have been discussed on the forum.

Deane,

The clown and joker bit I got from Fritz and I added the Dylan. I wasn't going for acerbic as no hard edges were intended. I suppose that I was aiming for mildly amusing.

I believe absolutely in democracy but not too much of it.

I consider government with all its accompanying bureaucracy should be as small as possible and then halved.
So I'm anti-EU (except as a trading block).

I wonder how far health and education, for rich and poor alike, has deteriorated since the introduction of the modern welfare state.

I wonder how much the benefits system contributes to levels of unemployment and incapacity.

I regard with horror the extent to which well-meaning governments have destroyed the traditional support and safety net of the extended family, with their housing and benefit policies.

Foreign policy-wise, I'm for rewarding democracies and withdrawing support from Dictators and oppressive regimes (although not necessarily by bombing shit out of them).

If I can't go to a town square (Sharansky style) and say what I want about the government then I don't want to live in that country. Nor do you. Why should they?

So I'm against the traditional Euro-Kissingerest-diplomatic policies of propping up bad governments for the sake of 'stability'.

I despise the UN, don't think we should arm China and consider that France runs its foreign policy like Arthur Dailey sells cars.

I'm passionately in favour of a democratic and free Palestine and a two-state solution to the Israel/Palestine question.

Under no circumstances would I allow Iran to have nukes.

...So, I'd say that I was pretty far to the right.

On the other hand ...

I believe that people should be allowed to do more or less what they want, as long as it doesn't harm others. This includes total freedom to practise or not practise any religion they choose.

I'd legalize and tax drugs.

I support Burnley. I'm a 6th Dan in aikido. I believe in many strange mind-body things. I love my wife and kids. I design speakers. I like The Simpsons.

Too much detail?

Ah well.

Good heavens Steve...

I'm rather shocked to discover that I'm in agreement with a surprising number of your above-stated beliefs! Eek

Whatever next?

Cheers,

I tried to leave once after I lost my rag and couldn't forgive myself. I'll believe that Long-time-dead is gone for good if he does the "full-Alves" (as it were). If he really doesn't come back I'll miss his presence.
