NB for a bit!

I’ve borrowed a pair of MF9s! These are far and away the best speakers I’ve heard in this room, or anywhere else. They have effortless control, scale, dynamics, speed, detail, clarity, crispness, and they have it all without a semblance of the cold or clinical. They are a touch bright in presentation in this room but that’s exactly the sound I like. The timing is spot on, the integration perfect. The bass is so clean and controlled that its totally seductive.

Beyond criticism - a must audition for anyone with serious money to spend on speakers. Sadly, I don’t think that includes me. Jaw dropping indeed, and, luckily, the Densen has no transit bolts Smile

Rod,

I've not tried the 5s or 7s but I did try the MFS and the poor little things got a bit lost in my room. I've heard them sound excellent elsewhere though.

Even with the 9s I've got 2 metres of headroom above the supertweeters. The 9s I heard at Heathrow had about 2 inches of headroom and still sounded good but here they've got real room to breathe and blossom. Also, in crappy hotel bedrooms I've heard mutterings that the bass isn't perfectly integrated, well, it sure is here. I had a reservation before they arrived that they might suffer from big, overblown bass - definately not, just deep and tight and none when its not called for - no overhang whatsoever.

Sorry to eulogise but these speakers do nothing wrong and everything right.

Alex,

A handy hint for positioning the MF9's.

Raise the rear spikes by an inch so that the speakers lean forwards. This helps the supertweaters fire into the room and gives the speakers even more space and transparancy.

What system are you using these speakers in?

Good for you, Alex. Now which subwoofer are you going to use with it?
Posted on: 23 March 2004 by Alex S.
Markus, I think I need a few. They need to be faster and cleaner than any other subs I've heard and don't need to do anything above 20HZ - any recommendations?

Subwoofers with Neat Ultimatum 9's whatever next?

A kind offer I will be in touch if I approach our capital in the near future.

Alex,

May I ask you what speaker cable you are using with the Neats and if you have bi-wired.

If you have used single speaker cable how have you connected the two speaker posts.

How have you placed the Neats? how far are they away from the rear wall and side walls?

NB, I wish I could post a picture but I can't.

Single wire Isolda cable with DNM mains cable DIY connectors - not going to bi-wire although bi-amping might be for the future.

I'm not doing any tilting - the S/tweeters have about 5 feet of free space above them. They're about 2.5m apart, 2m from side walls and a generous metre from the rear wall.

They sound awesome!
