My wife has been using a tempur pillow for several years now and swears by it. Mind you, I have tried the tempur pillow and found that I could not get comfortable with it. All I can say is try it.

I will be interested in people's findings. I have a serious back condition which makes sleep uncomfortable. The upshot of my serious back condition is taht I have to go to the gym at least 4 times a week (with 25 mins of heavy cardio and back exercises and weights) so even though my back hurts all the time I am fitter at 36 than I was when I was 26.

I have used the Tempur pillow for 3-4 years now and I really like it. It will take a few days to get used to it, but if and when you do your sleep should be more comfortable. It is critical to make sure that the fit is appropiate for you. Once you try the pillow you may have some insight into the way the mattress works.

Ken--
I've used a tempur mattress for about 5 years. It would be impossible for me to go back to any other type. A bit expensive, but worth every penny IMO.
Best,
Bob

My wife and I switched two years ago, and I would never go back either. My occasional but painful neck pains have disappeared. My impression is that my body moves less frequently at night; these movements previously triggered involuntary bad postures.
We began with the pillow as a test, then took the full plunge. I found both to feel odd over the first few nights; I now find a spring mattress to feel strange.
My suggestion is that you persuade the salesperson to try the mattress in store for as long as possible.
Happy sleeping,
Steven

bob and steven, many thanks. i will also try a tempur pillow and see how that goes. i have also suffered from a stiff neck which despite several chiro visits, hasnt really improved -- i now strongly suspect problematic bed/mattress.
will see how it goes...

I've got an early version of the Tempur pillow, and it's wonderful. I take it with me wherever I travel. I've often been intrigued by the concept of the mattress, and with my seemingly chronic muscle pains (see my poll Treating Muscle Ailments), it might be a possible solution. It's a bit painful to consider, though, since my existing mattress is very good and is only about five years old. (What is the normal lifetime of a regular mattress, btw?)

an update:
i eventually bought the tempur pillow. took a while to "run it in", but once it did -- the neck ache i used to have quite often has all but disappeared. thats not to say it wouldnt have been sorted out with another appropriately designed pillow -- however, i did look, and in vain.
the positive experience with the pillow has spurred me on to go the whole way and buy the mattress, which is being delivered soon.
no wonder why i now have no money for a cds3, but at least i will be able to sleep well. i hope. its funny that i shuddered at the price of the mattress and yet i have spent may times that on hifi without even blinking an eyelid.
i know when i go back to spending on my hifi, it will be with a vengeance...
sleep well and enjoy
