Changing the 'ally' on SBL's

Posted by: andy c on 01 April 2004

Hi,
I'm having to do a gasket change on my sbl's, and notice that the gap is getting closer between the gasket and the bass unit. The instructions refer to the need not to let the gasket touch the bass unit at all (thats the silicone's job after all!).

Question, the removal of the existing aluminium pads looks easy enough, but how about replacing fitting the new ones? Any tips?
i am concerned about getting the staples through the aluminium pads, but am considering tapping them thru with a tack hammer etc....

any helpful advice appreciated...

whereas, mine curled up and moved about. I hammered the staples in with a small hammer

Same as Tom, the glue was strong enough.

I wimped out and got those helpful chaps at Naim HQ to replace mine, but I live a short drive away from Salisbury. The SBL gasket instructions[that come with the replacement gasket kit]also advise filling in the old staple holes with Ronseal wood filler and sanding down to a nice smooth finish before fitting new pads.
