Prefix off preamp.

Hey, how do people feel about naim phono stages being used without a seperate power supply. I firstly had a stageline K powered by the aux 2 on my pre and although things sounded very clear, it really didn't get the blood flowing. I have since upgraded to a prefix K and I can hear improvements in terms of refinement, but still the overall quality seems light. I remember having a flatcap for a short while and tried this on the stageline alone. Memerory tells me that the improvement was huge. I am still on the upgrade path, but wonder if people have the same findings as me. I am thinking of putting the LP12 in it's box for now until a supercap arrives, then I will put the hicap on the prefix only. This will probably improve sound from my CDX2 as the hicap is no longer drained by powering the prefix. What do you guys think?

I've been using a Flatcap to power my Prefix for several years and last week I switched to a Hicap instead.

I was amazed at how much difference there was - overall clarity improved but the real impact was at the bottom end with extra depth to bass and drums particularly.

I'm using a Lyra Clavis into an 82 with two more Hicaps and a pair of 135s.

A few years ago I started feeding my Prefix with a separate Hi-Cap, rather than output 2 on the 52. And yesy, it made for a huge improvement, not only on the TT but on all sources. Then, a few weeks ago I replaced the HiCap with a Supercap and the result is amazing! The Prefix is now incredibly good.

you can also always go OTT and power your prefix with a supercap! i tried this sometime ago and was trully gobsmacked. takes vinyl performance to a new level..

enjoy
