media storage cards

i recently borrowed a 128mb SD card for my digi camera and discovered it was incompatible. my 64mb SD card i use has 9 small metal contacts on the back and a write-protect switch.the card i borrowed only had 7 metal contacts and no switch. why is one SD card different to the other? The guy told me it came from his smartphone.

If it's the same physical dimensions as an SD card but without a switch it will be an MMC card. IIRC You can generally use MMC cards in SD slots but not the other way around so I am not sure wht it didn't work.

SD Cards are the newer design and are the prefered option.
