DV 10X5 cartridge?

Posted by: woody on 31 March 2004

Cornflake - the shop I bought my Rega P25 from - are recommending the Dynavector 10X5 cartridge...anyone any experiences with this? Is it worth £250 or are there better out there? If so, what?

I've been using a Dynavector DV-20XL on my Rega P25 with very good results.

Is that a "better" cartridge - I don't know the DV range but it has a 20 in it's name rather than a 10, and it also has XL. Confused.

I am extremely pleased with my Dynavector 10X5. My old cartridge got long in the tooth and when it was time to upgrade, I did not want to spend a ton of cash on a cartridge because I primarily listen to CD and also needed to pick up the Stageline around the same time. For the money, I think the 10X5 represents excellent value. I'm sure you can find better cartridges, but I bet it would be pretty tough to do at that price point. I've heard from others that Dynavector carts seem to do PRAT well and mate nicely with Naim electronics, and nothing I've heard causes me to disagree.

i have a p25 with a dv 10x5 and would happily buy the cart again (assuming I can afford it!). it is a brilliant cartridge, quite transparent without being annoyingly clinical - it lets the music shine through without imposing anything. be warned - mine took a little while to run in and it has a very different sound to my previous cart - a rega super bias - which was a little bit wooly in comparison. initially i confused wool with warmth Smile but after a week or two's run in it all became clear.

the world is a beter place for the dv10x5.

OK - I'm convinced...

I guess I'll get my t/t down to cornflake for the fitting which Dom reckons "is a bit fiddly"

cheers, guys!

Just to supplement my prior message, I believe the 10X5 is at the bottom of the Dynavector range. If your budget allows, there may be better cartridges in the line for not that much more money. However, that being said, the 10X5 is a tremendous cartridge for the money. If you go for it, let us know what you think. Good luck.

Thanks, but if I get any more cash I'm getting me a CDX2 Cool

BTW my wife is in NY at the moment - apparently - and this must be a first - the weather there is worse than it is here Big Grin

I don't blame you in the least. One of the reasons that I didn't want to go overboard on my cartridge is that I was (and still am) hoping to put aside enough cash for a CDX2. What an awesome machine that is!

And, yes, the weather in New York (at least where I'm at) is lousy today.
