Warm Up Time for CDS3/XPS2
Posted by: AlanK on 11 April 2004
Hi,
I have got my CDS3/XPS2 for 2 months. Does anyone know what is the warm up time required after I have turned the XPS2 off for about 7 hours (while the rest of my system remain on)?
Thank you!
Alan

Dangerous question right now. Go here to see why.

IMO you will convince yourself, just like a lot of the rest of us that some improvement is heard for the first day after switching a PS back on.
Out of interest how much time did the combo of the CDS3/XPS2 take to stop improving after first switch on for you.
Watch how you reply, the debate could start up all over again. Ben for instance has an ulterior motive for asking you, just like I do.
Don't worry I'm only joking

Hello Ben and Geoff:
I had upgraded to CDS3/XPS2 from CDX2 (without XPS2). Did notice big improvement out of the box for the first couple of days. Then I started to get imbalance channels and flat sound stage. I suspected that there were some problems with the burndy. I had recently received my replacement burnby from Naim HQ (the nice guy Mr. Richard Dane) and that really brought up the dynamic of the system right away! So I don't really know what the changes should be like during the first 2 months under normal circumstance. For my case, the combo stopped improving after first couple of days... but I believed that it was caused by the faulty burndy more than anything else.
I think this will not start another round of heated discussion... granted that my circumstance is a bit different, huh?

Alan,
burn in proces is somewhat overrated.
I have to agree that CDS3 improves greatly in first few days and from that on, there are subtle improvements that occurs. In my case, mainly the bass fills in more with a greater definition. The rest is pure icing on the cake.
What is puzzling to me is that the sound/performance of CDS3 varies greatly depending on units. The previous unit I have demoed, no burn in will make it sounds ilke my current unit.

....my CDS3 just gets better & better each time I switch it on (nearly 3 months old) hope it stops improving soon or I shall feel compelled to send Naim more money for the extreme pleasure it brings (only joking) it is awesome though!!!...

Hi Alan
I reckon my new CDS3/XPS2 took two to three months from new to really open up and sing.
My experience with Naim kit over the last 20+ years is that if kit is switched off for 5 or 10 minutes, it goes back to 'cold' status.
When my CDS2/XPS was powered down, I reckon it took the best part of a fortnight to deliver its full potential again.
