Problem with my series 5
Posted by: cyu on 13 April 2004
Hello
I have cd5, 112, 150 to credo speakers. I have been noticing that they sound quite blend and lack of excitement.
would adding ps help alleviate this?
do you think that room set up play a role?
Do i need to get my system serviced?
how much better is CD5i and nait 5i compare to what i own?
sorry for too many questions
thanks

hello cyu
your system is rather new, so i don't think it should be serviced, maybe room setup is the problem but i don't know for sure.
The cd5i and nait 5i are not better than you already have in fact you can't upgrade these with additional ps.

Sounds like you need a complete unplug/replug. The Din contacts need to be cleaned periodically. They are self cleaning. Turn everything off, and unplug and replug every cable including the mains cables. If you want to go all the way, unplug and replug the fuses too.
It's the audio equivalent of inflating tires to the right pressure on a car.

What about speaker cable and mains? Do you have dedicated spur/s/ or hydra? Are your credos near the wall?
A flatcap2 will give you a significant improvement. You will not be wrong, if you buy one without home demo.

...and even more important: Have your kit ALWAYS sounded like this, or has it changed recently?
Have you moved the plugs around? Plugged something else into the same block? Moved furniture etc?

Have you by chance listended to something highter up the chain making you start to doubt your own system?
I had pretty much the same set up as you until I upgraded my CD5 and it sounded fine in what was a small room and I am almost certain that it my Hi-Fi positioning is far from perfect.

At first I had the same feeling 112/150 is boring, even my Nait5 seemed to have more PRAT.
But Slim is right adding a FC2 really gives life to the system.
