New Amp

Hello i have about a grand to spend on new amplification but can't decide. my current setup is marantz cd63 ki sig, nait3, mordaunt short 812's, rega plannar 3.i am thinking of hicap 72/180.if i can get a good price or a 102/140 hicap or would i be better going for the newish nait 5 any suggestions would be most appreciated,thank u

If I were in your possition I would chuck it all at the front end. A better CD player or Turntable would bring far greater benefits than a better amp.

I thought the 63 ki sig was a good player,although i have had it about 5 years . if i am to upgrade the front end what would you go for

I changed two years ago from Maranz 6000 KI sig to CD5 and it was a big step. Much more fun, it opened the door for new music. I don't want to underestimate the maranz, it's a nice player, but naim CDP is something else.

I would go for CDX or CD5 and FC2.

A second hand CDX would put you in another league.

Forget changing the Nait 3 for a Nait 5; it's a sideways step, not an upgrade.

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

looking through various second hand outlets on the net mainly hififorsale.com i have spied a cd 3.5 for about £500 and various pre/power models for about the same ie 72/140.would the 3.5 be a bigger step up than my cd63 ki sig and would a 72/140 show better control / deeper soundstage etc.than my nait 3.also would it be worth converting my 3 to a pre and going for a nap 180 or similar .
this money is burning a hole in my sole

Another vote for changing your source. Either something like a CD5 or P25 (which is on special offer) will be great.

Yes, the 3.5 is a bigger step up than your CD63KI.
I made exactly the same step, a few years ago, and have never regret it!
(went from CD63KI, to CD3.5, to CD3.5 & Flatcap, to CDX)
