Just considered getting a CDX2.
With a current sistem of 3.5/FC1 - 32.5/HC - 135's - SBL's, I realised that for the same outlay I could get a CDX & 82 used. Or CDX & XPS used.
HHmmm...waddayathink guys.
I won't take much notice, but I'd still like your opinions.

Come on rasher you know it makes sense.
You must have reda all the glowing reports. Just don't go anywhere near an XPS2 unless you have twice as much money as you need for the CDX2.
If in doubt go here for the latest update

Get the CDX 2.
Later when you've got the cash, get a XPS2
Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

Just thought I would add my experience, recently upgraded from a CD3.5/hi-cap cd player to a second hand CDX, not in the league you are looking at but the improvement is incredible, the improvement in PRAT is astounding!

I think the 82/CDX is a much better way to go.

To the CDX2 fans...
32.5-->82 is a HUGE jump and will benefit all sources.
Not so clear cut...

82 + CDX...
Yeah, but a bare CDX2 seemed so much better to me than a bare CDX...The bare CDX2 rivals a CDS1 - costs more, but will probably last longer without service...and a 32.5 ain't bad....
Regards.

I agree the 82 is a better pre than the 32.5, but if it were my money, I would probably try and get something like a 102/Supercap which knocks on the door of the 52 IMHO (it does the knocking very musically BTW) whereas the 82 with 1 or 2 HiCaps has a more analytical view of the world.
Source wise, don't compromise! Get a CDS1, yu can get the mech refurbed/recapped at Naim and it will pee all over the CDX from a huge height. Also the price of CDS1 entry can very very cheap - maybe £1k or less, there's one for sale right now somewhere from memory.
Then RAsh-head will have a mega system CDS1/102 (just wait for the 52 then when it comes to bonus time) SuperCap/135s/SBL - basically Dev's system circa. 1996. And it rocks. The only things he needs is a good base rack/or ikea + fraim put the 52/102 and CDS1 head on fraim and the rest on el cheapo junk.

The only thing that worried me was that an 82 with CDX left me nowhere to go after an XPS, except to get rid of the CDX again.
Dev - Tell me more about the CDS1. I'm not familiar with this. Less than £1k? Presumably needs an XPS. How much would a 102 cost?
The CDX with 82 does seem a lot for the money

rasher,
i recently went from bare cdx to cdx2 and the improvement was enormous to my ears.
trouble is you will want to get the xps2 soon after even if you say you wont now, it will eat away at you thinking ,"boy how good will a xps2 make this cdx2 sound". and by all accounts its worth every penny. cdx2 certainly is just that!!
but as you say you wont take any notice, but hope this helps.
regards, scotty
