What's Up with U2???

The mix on the new album is horrendous. I could hardly hear the drums, its mixed way back and too low level. I know Bono has a great vox and Edge's guitar playing is unique, but can we please have a more balance mix. While the songs seem good, but the mix made it impossible to enjoy.
I always liked U2 for larry, especially on WAR.

David,
Yeah, the new album is great for content but horrendous for production. I've never been impressed with the quality of any of the U2 albums which is a shame since they are such a good band.
Maybe Naim can do something about this

Naim should sign them on their label. I am sure they are willing to hear offers.

Somehow, without the right snare drum sound, even a supposedly rock tune like Vertigo doesn't rock...sad isn't it? I'm surprised because Steve Lilywhite has been with the band since WAR days.

I do wonder if this has fallen victim to the 'mix for MP3' sound?
Am I correct this was first available (legally) for download from the Ipod site?
(I'm not certain on this)
For certain they were promoting limited edition Ipods with this album to the fore.
I seem to remember a recent thread on the demise of dynamic range, and the effect that recording for playing on air and to be downloaded as MP3 was having on many recordings.

Whatever the reason, it is unacceptable that a huge release such as this is so compromised on sound quality. Universal and the other multinationals have what they deserve. They complain about piracy and the internet and then they make crap sounding albums.
It´s a relief I never liked U2 that much anyway
Julius.

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking the production and sound quality is poor on the new album. I played it a couple of times but it sounded so naff I have given up on it.

And the previous album IMO. Pale and unintresting - then I saw the live DVD. So that's how it's supposed to sound? That's more like it.
U2 arn't the only band to have been blighted by piss poor production or post production - doesn't seem to affect sales though.
Cheers
