Dawn of the Dead

The first 20 minutes is really good - but perhaps a bit downhill after that. I remember the original and the satirical shopping centre/zombie thing isn't quite as funny. But having faster moving zombies makes it all a bit more edge of the seat.
Waiting to see Shaun of the Dead now...

I note that the original Dawn of the Dead is on the BBC this week, so you can compare and contrast.
I enjoyed the satrical element of the original being set in a consumer temple. The lush life style was signified by the use of a B&O parallel tracker turntable and Habitat style lounge furniture!

I think you mean '28 Days Later'. I think this is better than that and you don't have to watch the execrable Sean Pertwee.
Music could have been better though. There was some Johnny Cash, but I really wanted Kraftwerk's "Showroom Dummies" in there somewhere...

Gonna have to give this film a try and set the video on Wednesday night.Even though I thought 28 days later was good i still prefer the 'classic zombies' maybe it's the cheese factor!

I saw the new dawn of the dead the other day and thought it was pretty poor. I've never seen the original and i may rent it to see if it's any better. I thought 28 days was miles better, much better focus on the characters and how the situation changed them.

If you like zombie stuff have a go at Resident Evil 2 on Playstation.
Cracker story, heaps of carnage and great gameplay. scary as hell IMO with the lights off and stereo up loud.
If you don't cheat it's a helluva ride.

unfortunately I'm living in canada at the moment so it isn't on telly this wednesday. Has anyone here seen it (the original)? is it any good? I love films, but I'm not really a horror film fan although I do like the occasional well done horror film.

Yes. It's really good. The zombies are much slower moving and the shopping mall stuff is quite balletic and very funny. I can't remember what happens at the end though....

does anyone remember the film 'Day Of The dead'?
now that was good.
I think it was originally out in the late 70s or early 80s.
no poncy special effects either.
just lots of blood-curdling scenes with guts getting ripped out of ribcages and violence galore.
the accompanying soundtrack was also suitably foreboding and gloomy.
I think most horror films these days lack the 'scare factor' and macabre atmosphere of older examples.
it's all special effects and little substance.
just compare the original texas chainsaw massacre to the current version, for example - crap.
who remembers 'Driller Killer' or 'I Spit On Your Grave'?
classics!

Trevor is right. Saw Night of the living dead (1968) on the BBC last night, and due to its atmosphere it is far more doomy and gloomy then the modern remakes.
Nowadays they look like computergames.Or videoclips for that matter.

Not a gamer myself but I have seen the Resident evil games and the effects are very good.Day of the dead was a good film for effects but didn't have the scare factor (IMO).I thought Driller killer was good, very dark and moody,I spit on your grave; seen that a coupe of months ago the full version not the one in HMV etc,too disturbing for me(sexual violence etc.)
My favorites are Evil dead ,Zombie flesh eaters and the living dead at Manchester morgue!...totally recomended if you can get the uncut versions.
