CDS2 TO CDS3 Upgrade path

Posted by: Simon Adams on 19 April 2004

I upgraded my XPS to XPS2 this weekend. I was suprised and amazed at the shear size of the improvement. I'm sure other threads have gone in to much detail about the improvements the XPS2 brings, so I won't go in to any more detail here....

I would however, Like to know if anyone has upgraded (to the XPS2) and then (after a while) upgraded the head unit from CDS2 to CDS3. If there is anyone out there that has followed this upgrade path, can you report on the difference the head unit replacement makes in comparison to the diffence the XPS/XPS2 makes.

The difference the XPS2 makes is huge, hence I'm thinking if the difference between the head units (CDS2 vs CDS3) is as big if not bigger, then I'm in for a nice suprise when I get my CDS3 head unit in a few weeks.......;-))

I'd like to know the same thing.

I dont appear to have made myself clear.

The difference the CDS3 makes over the CDS2 is larger than the difference the XPS2 Makes over the XPS.

Source first and all that.

The CDS3 is far less 'CD' like than the CDS2. Don't get me wrong, the CDS2 is a damn fine CDP. Just that the CDS3 is ooooooodles better.

OK?

Yoda,

Thanks for the comments. My dealer (Billy Vee) told me pretty much the same thing - however, it's always good to hear from an independant source.

Cheers!

Simon,

I've changed to S-XPS burndy then to XPS2 about 2 months later and will receive my CDS3 at the end of this week. I've still got my CDS2 so will be running both side by side until I sell it. I'll post about the changes.

Allen / Brendan,

Thanks for your comments. The anticpation of what the CDS3 can deliver is getting too muh!! Oh for quicker lead times from Naim...;-)

Simon.

Hi Brendan,
could you tell me (us) your impression of the news S-XPS-burndy? Is it a worthwhile upgrade for my
CDSII/XPS/black burndy or only together with the new XPS2?

Regards

Hannes,

The S-XPS burndy is a very worthwhile upgrade over the standard cable when used with a CDS2 and XPS1. Bass in particular is improved with greater texture and separation. Whilst the improvement is not as significant as the addition of the XPS2 itself, the S-XPS cable is a great value for money upgrade.
