You've got to laugh.
A great public display of how the Monachy operate and their efficiency at their role.
Couldn't be more useless if it was run by a work experience kiddie from school. (actually that isn't fair. I have worked alongside a few work experience kids for a week at a time, and they are generally excellent). It is just lucky they don't have any power!
This incompetence has got to be the final nail.

With all due repect 7UP I really don't see what your pretty little story has got to do with modern day UK Health Services what'sover ? As a point to CP (MR) regarding little financial bi´lines for GP's so to speak, even here If I want an insurance testomony or holidy jabs, etc, I must pay 'cash' and wait my turn like everybody else. An AIDS test costs €20 as a rule, unless it can be proven, it's an emergency so to speak. The private GP practice as of 5 years or so must run as a business too, often causing stress and bveaurocratic nonsense for some where it never existed before, innit.
Fritz Von Mick wait until you require a Spanish Doc when you live there ? it's very different irrespective of what you may of heard, innit.

I thought some members might find it as interesting as I did, is all. A little historical perspective rarely hurts.

Clive,
Firstly let me state that I would, and have supported NHS workers through thick and thin, In the 80's I even took industrial action along with thousands of other industrial worker in the Coventry area so that the Nurses didn't have to, when they were pursuing a claim for a decent wage for them selves. I state this just so you, or for that matter anybody else, dosn't get the wrong idea of where I stand in this matter.
But I must seek clarification on your statment about consultants doing private work,Surly any "work" that they do ie operations such as Mick quotes must have been carried out in NHS premises with NHS equipment and resources including theatre Staff, and after the operations have been carried out, is it not NHS Staff who carry out the post operative care.I realise that this may just have been a sop to the Consultants made by Blair when they threatend to take industrial action, instead of granting them a realistic Wage for what they do, which some may argue they already receive in full without the private work. But this procedure must surly take up NHS resorces that other wise would /could be used to treat those who do not have the luxury of private health insurance and thus fast track treatment.
I'm sorry if this causes your better half offence, but none is intended and is a genuine quest for answers

Its a very fair question.
The fee that a private patient pays covers everything - surgeon's time and skills, drugs and dressings, anaesthetist fee, nursing care both in theatre and afterwards. Most private work is carried out in private hospitals, or in private units at NHS hospitals. Only rarely are private patients nursed on NHS wards, and then their fees are paid to the hospital, which of course uses that money towards the staff and equipment costs incurred.
No offence taken; I did consider explaining the detail earlier, but decided to stick to basics!
Mrs CP.

Mr/Mrs Cunningplan
Had I been treated on the NHS, I would have been at the back of the queue and everyone would have been in front of me. I paid the money and jumped the queue, it is as simple as that.
The self same surgeon was operating on me instead of some NHS patient.
I won, the surgeon won, some NHS patient lost.
Regards
Mick
